Brian Wong is a Canadian entrepreneur. He was born in 1991 in Vancouver. Wong is famous for having founded Kiip (pronounced keep) a mobile rewards platform. Brian started his career at Digg, where he got a job offer in 2010. During his period at Digg, Brian Wong led the development of the Digg Android app.
He was able to finish high school at the age of 14 and receive a degree in Commerce from the University of British Columbia at the age of 18. As most of the tech entrepreneurs, Brian started a consulting company that built websites while he was in College. He’s known for being one of the youngest entrepreneurs to raise venture capital.
After getting fired from Digg, Brian Wong raised $300k, when he was 19, to start Kiip, a company that lets brand give rewards for in game achievements. After three years, Kiip has raised more than $15M. Further the company has been named one of the fifty most innovative companies by Fast Company. As Brian underlines in his INBOUND talk, they were more innovative than Microsoft.
In the last years, Brian has been named in several lists as one of the most remarkable entrepreneurs. He was in the Forbes 30 Under 30, at the age of 20, and Mashable named him one of the top 5 Young Entrepreneurs to Watch. He doesn’t belong to the dropout generation, but to some extent he does, by having finished University when he was 18 years old.
What it is remarkable about Brian’s story is the trust that he received from people that had far way more experience and knowledge than him. Three years later, that trust seems to have been a good bet, given the achievements and the way Kiip is expanding. Brian Wong was also featured in “The Startup Kids” documentary.
