Dennis Crowley is an American internet entrepreneur. He’s famous for having co-founded Foursquare, a location-based social networking website for mobile devices. He was also the co-founder of Dodgeball, a location-based social networking software provider for mobile devices that was later acquired by Google in 2005.

His background includes a B.A. in 1998 from Syracuse University and M.P.S master’s degree in 2004 from the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts ITP. After his Dodgeball experience, which started while he was studying at the New York University, Dennis Crowley moved the experience gained to Foursquare, a product that launched in 2009.

After three years, in 2012, Foursquare counted 25 million registered users and several different venture rounds. Dennis has been named one of the “Top 35 Innovators Under 35″ by MIT’s Technology Review in 2005. Nowadays Foursquare, which was considered one of the most prominent location-based startups, is at a crossroads between pivoting and failing.

Crowley is the kind of entrepreneur that focuses on a single idea and tries to solve it over and over again, even if he fails or sells his company, location will forever be his huge dilemma. That’s why Crowley is someone we must look at and admire for what he has achieved and done, even though, currently, Foursquare’s future is uncertain and really dark.
