Evan Williams is an American Entrepreneur. He’s most known for being the Co-Founder of Blogger, Twitter and Medium. Evan Williams started his Blogger life as a side project at the company he co-founded with Meg Hourihan, Pyra Labs. They released the first version of Blogger on the 23rd of August in 1999. Firstly, they made the product available for free; even though this decision was the best way to get traction, it caused them a lot of financial issues, which ended up with Evan Williams running the company alone. In February 2003, Pyra was acquired by Google.
After the Blogger experience, Evan was one of the Co-Founders of Twitter, the most famous micro-blogging platform in the world which is going to face an IPO. This should be a good news for Williams, who is the main shareholders with 12% of the company. He is also the former CEO of Twitter. He left the company when he had the solid grounding in order to start new projects.
That’s why he co-founded Medium with Biz Stone, a blog publishing platform, in August 2012. They founded the company in order to create the perfect environment to let people write great content in more than 140 characters. Medium is still small, but the design and the neatness of the platform give it a unique touch.
Evan Williams belongs to the dropouts generation. He didn’t finish college and he was able to create several different companies, all related to “typing and thinking”, in his Entrepreneurial journey.
