After looking much further into what is expected at Google I/O, you discover some quite amazing and exciting rumors whirling around. For me, this is one of the most exciting parts of the year. In the last 3 years we have usually seen Apple releasing something early June then Google blowing it out the water at the end of June. I hope this common conception continues with Google I/O this year. Last year was a good event however it focused towards the developers and not the products or services (I don’t have anything against developers for sure), hopefully in 2014 we will see more products, service updates and moonshots as this is what attracts a lot more attention in the short term for Google. I wanted to focus on just what people are suggesting and what to expect at this year’s I/O, here is a list of things.

Moto 360 Android Wear 1024x682 What To Expect At Google I/O

  • Google Glass global consumer release
  • Android Watch Google Edition
  • Tablet using Project 3D Tango Software
  • Android 4.5/5.0 system with new applications
  • Google Fiber worldwide availability
  • New Google+ Desktop and functionality (new name)
  • Internet services based announcement
  • Chromebook Pixel 2
  • New Chromebook from Google (not Pixel)
  • Nexus 8 - a similar
  • Project Ara updates and news on release dates
  • Boston Dynamics moonshot project
  • Health based moonshot project
  • Nexus 10 tablet (revised)
  • A new fitness application
  • Google Now updates with more virtual assistant experience
These may all be rumours, even exciting ones, but the truth is whether we see all of these on stage or not, Google is rocking! Apple’s event focused solely around developers catching up with the Google Play Store and the capabilities that it brings to all its developers. This is Google’s opportunity to have a basic event and stay ahead as innovation leaders in the technology market. I have discovered a lot of rumours on Google+ saying that Google will focus on moonshot projects that it can be developing over the next two years directly relevant to the companies that it purchased in the last year in regards to robotics. There are so many rumours flying around that it is hard to distinguish between what is real and what is fairy tale, Personally I think Google will do the following:

14 1 What To Expect At Google I/O

  • Updates and news about Google Glass (Consumer version)
  • A Revised Android update with new visuals (4.5 or 5.0)
  • A Revised Nexus 10/11
  • A new Desktop Google+ (announced before event)
  • Revised applications for all Google services across Android and iOS
  • A new Google Play Store look and functionality

Although I don’t have a 100% record in predictions I have distilled the best of the rumours and created a small overview of what they can do in those 2hr of air-time. I am looking forward to many of these projects that I have predicted especially so the revised updated for the Google stock applications as well as the new Google+, I am really looking forward to seeing what Google will do with the social spine of the service as well as how it will fit into the bigger spectrum.

It seems that Google has a lot on its plate for this event, I hope that Google doesn’t fall into the same plan as the last year where they announced that little will be introduced at Google I/O. I would love a packed Google event with lots of new devices, service updates and moonshots this would showcase their true innovation and true dominance above companies like Apple and Microsoft.
