Facebook 5.0 iPad App Facebook 5.0 For iPad Cool or Not?
Facebook has recently announced the release of a new version of the iOS app, the 5.0. This should be the first real step into what Facebook has already promised to investors and stockholders, mobile. The 5.0 is not just an update, but it is the “Update”, the one that can help understand how Facebook wants to play the game.

Although the iPhone app has been updated as much as the iPad one, we really want to focus on the iPad. Tablets are going to be crucial for the Facebook’s future projects, since they are the best devices to be social and to discover new content. The previous Facebook iPad App really missed the point. It was slow, it didn’t load what it had to load and sometimes it crashed without any reason.

Facebook has anticipated the release with this blog post on their site. They pointed out the fact that the App has been built from the ground up, leaving behind HTML5 and moving to the native iOS language, Objective C. Further they added that the App should be two times faster than the previous one, cool. Is that the point?

I don’t think so, but this is another story. From a first interaction, it seems the app is really faster as they promised, but it is practically the same. Nothing has changed and nothing has been introduced inside the app. Further the ability to share a status is still not present. What they really did was making everything bigger, letting people with eyesight problems see.

Funny? Yes. If we describe the app from a first usage and from what Facebook told to the press, this article will probably be finished. However this is not the end, because we believe we see the wider picture. With this release Facebook has rebuilt his grounds, now it has something to lay on. Before there were just two mere apps, which weren’t really useful at all.

At this stage we have two unuseful apps, but that are faster than the average app. This should sound as a funny story, but it is not. From now on the Menlo Park based company is going to work on something, having a strong background. I am telling you that the next updates are coming. Instagram needs to be integrated in some way, the sharing feature is welcome, ads on the iPad or another form of business model must be implemented.

This, if Facebook is smart, is the beginning of a small revolution inside a company. Moreover it was the right time to release an update and to see how the $FB symbol on Nasdaq would have acted after what Peter Thiel did. I am not a Facebook fan, but this was a smart move.
