A couple of weeks ago, I was interviewing Rormix in A Beer With Episode and while we were talking about technology, trends and the future, they asked me what I thought the next big thing would be. Starting from the fact that everyone has his own opinion and no one of them is exactly true, I gave them an answer.

I am a believer. I believe that in the next ten years, the whole life experience will be moved to the Internet. The integration between life and internet will be definitely complete in a matter of years. We are currently witnessing one of the biggest revolutions in human interactions right now.

People have stopped interacting in the way they used to do fifty years ago and now 80%, if no more, of human interactions happen on the internet. The net has become a place to meet people, talk to them, date them, start revolutions together or even just hangout.

Think about Glass, Pebble and even the new smart watches that will be released in the next few months. It’s game over, or better, it’s the beginning of a new life, where the Internet takes a central role.

Even the task of meeting new people easily, thanks to apps, like Tinder, has given us the opportunity to avoid those awkward moments. The Internet is able to directly match us with the people who share our same interests, friends and hobbies; why should you keep struggling to find the right girl every single Friday?

You could just click and be matched with your soul mate. Although this revelation might be creepy at first, it is just one of the many creepy steps that we will take. No one believed that personal computers had a future, but in the end, they became the most used product in the world. No one believed that people could have a “complex” smart phone in their pockets, but in the end, everyone now has one.

What I mean is that most of the time, people don’t know what they do or don’t want. Entrepreneurs have the difficult task of showing them the things they might be interested in using. It’s not easy, but think about Dropbox, who would ever have imagined Dropbox would fill a need we had? No one. However Drew Houston was able to show us that we desperately needed Dropbox.

Looking at all this, my answer was everything that connects us to the Internet. In particular, I was thinking about any kind of wearable technology. A smart necklace? A smart bracelet? A smart hoodie? A smart T-Shirt? A smart house? A smart sofa? A smart table? A smart wall? Yes. We are going to live on the interent and at some point, everything will be connected to it.

In the next couple of years, Entrepreneurs will have to think about new ways to connect us. The BluFit and Android Home are two projects that have started working with that mindset; but there is still a lot to do. The world will be full of glass holes in a matter of months, which will raise awareness on how important wearable technologies are.

This is why I personally believe Microsoft has still one of the most remarkable products in the world, the Kinect. Even though they are not using it as I think they should, that single device has got a lot of potential, since it could be integrated with any kind of platform. Think about a wall that recognise you when you get home and ask you how warm the room is. The Kinect is an extremely powerful device, which is on the same wavelength as LeapMotion.

People thought no one would wear Glass, but the first product released for $1500, has shown us that there is a market and people who didn’t know what Glass was became interested. I am 100% certain that I’ll start sleeping with them on. Why? It’s the future and as any other person who wants to build something I need a mindset that is looking thirty years ahead and not twenty back.

The future is wearable.
