On the 4th of May of 2012, I published the first ever blog post on Great Preneurs, a blog that started as a challenge to learn, understand and study technology and in particularly startups. Two years later, the quality of that first post has increased, the network we have built has grown massively and, even though we have taken a gap year, we are still here, trying to understand the world from a different point of view.

In the last two years, eleven people have contributed to what Great Preneurs is and aims to be, by enriching our ecosystem and creating a place where people think and reflect. We don’t want to report news or write articles to get more visits, we want to explain the news and think that every single post can be the page of a long book that we are writing. This growth has made us think about where we want to go and how we can expand this ecosystem even further.

That’s why we are introducing (the first ever) Great Preneurs Conference 2014. We think an event like this is going to make us stronger and will increase the network of people that we are trying to connect with. Although we have partially succeeded on the internet, it’s time to try to connect people face to face.

We didn’t want to create an event about entrepreneurship and tech, we wanted to create an event to connect people who shared the same interests and wanted to contribute in something bigger than us. For this reason, this will be the first ever conference about Manchester Startups. We believe this city can really become a top 5 European startup destination and the only way to achieve it is to connect people and magnify what has already been achieved.

In the past years, great people have built a community of innovators, starting from Techhub Manchester and ending with Techcelerate, this year, we also want to give something back to the community. The conference will have four main speakers that are going to focus on the Manchester ecosystem and how startups can grow in this city. Martin Bryant, editor in chief of The Next Web, Ben Taylor, Co-Founder of Fatsoma, Tim Langley, Co-Founder and CEO of CANDDi, and Rose Lewis, Co-Founder of Collider, are going to talk about what this city means for startups.

Following the keynotes, we’ll run a set of fireside chats with the startups who are building this scene. We’ll interview Formisimo, which recently got into Seedcamp, Moment.us, that got accelerated by Collider, and Rormix, which has recently closed a venture round with AXM capital. On the same day, Growot will pitch the audience with the product they have built in the past months and that we will probably see on Kickstarter a few days later, after the conference.

This is a great opportunity for Manchester and for all those who believe in what we believe. Our aim is to become a place where people reflect, learn, understand and share, because giving back to the community is the most important aspect of our entrepreneurial lives. The conference will take place on the 3rd of May at Techhub Manchester, where Entrepreneurship and Tech belong.

We’ll also run networking sessions with the hope people can connect and join the revolution that is taking place in Manchester. Although we live in a world that encourages us to get a job and find stability, we still think that the challenge of starting something out of nothing and trying to ship it to people who don’t know you is still worth pursuing.

This is the beginning of a new movement of thinkers who are going to work together to build the next generation of startups and innovators. If you want to join us at the event, you can find out more on our conference website. If you can’t make it, but you think you can still add value to this platform, become a contributor today.
