Then there is that time when you want to reward the developer of the latest app you downloaded, but you don’t know how to do it since the app is free. KudosKit aims to solve this problem by “helping users show their appreciation for your app.” When we went to AppsWorld we weren’t expecting to meet a such rich environment of interesting ideas, but it turned out we found out some pretty cool stuff such as kudosKit.
With this platform, users decide if, and how, to reward the developers of their favorite mobile application. The developer can choose up to five appreciation modules: Boost Social, Improve Ratings, Contribution to Earnings, Get Feedback and Cross Promote Apps. As a developer, you can also create your custom “Kudos”, if you don’t want to use the five standard modules.
Further the server analyses the engagements with the app and recommends to the developer which users might be ready to show appreciation for the application. In this way, developers can reach their real user base without annoying the less-engaged users. What you can also do is monitor and optimize the activity of your Kudos by using the kudosKit dashboard.

We reached Omri Halamish, Vice President at IronSource, the company behind kudoSkit, in order to know more about how they came up with this idea and why.
“Six months ago we have launched a mobile app called good weather. Six days later it was picked by Apple to be featured on the app store homepage and in the weather category. We quickly gained a large user base and just like any other app developer we started to think how we can make a living out of it.
Although IronSource has its own mobile ad network - We didn’t want to place ads as we wanted to keep our users happy. We have noticed that most of our users use the app quite often so we decided to approach them directly. We added a screen saying “If you love using good weather, please show us how much”. We placed it in various spots within the app (for example when a user changes a city, or when a game is over) – and we got tons of coffee!!
Enabling us to create a substantial revenue stream and keep our users happy. This internal success story pushed us to transform this idea into a platform for developers by which they can suggest to their users a number of different ways to show appreciation for the app, including Boost Social, Improve Ratings, Contribution to Earnings, Get Feedback and Cross Promote other Apps they own.
The kudosKit real-time server analyzes behavior patterns of users engaged with the app, and recommends to the developer which users might be ready to show appreciation for the application, easily allowing developers to identify users who may wish to give them Kudos. In this way, developers may reach loyal users while avoiding new or less-engaged users.”
KudosKit, which reminds me Kiip, but that has a completely different aim, opens a new and different business model for app developers. Think about getting free lunch through the app you have developed or trying to get a salary through the rewards of your users. The concept is pretty simpls and software companies, which develops just on mobile platforms, such as ImangiStudios or Rovio might even give it a try instead of using banners or freemium models.
Releasing a priced app is one of the worst thing you can do, because it lowers the level of engagement; but asking for rewards while your users are playing and enjoying what you have developed, without paying before trying it, might be a solution to the problem.
