For this week, I wanted to explore the world of emailing a little further. Emailing dominates many people’s lives and creates a world to keep in constant communication with others around the world. Being a Gmail user and a productivity freak, I am a user of the native Gmail application to get all my emails on all my Google devices however I have been excited to look into MailCloud as they have a new and creative way of approaching emailing and the key elements that people use emailing for. I was able to find the Founder and CEO, Malcolm Bell to ask a few questions and discover more about the startup and what it offers to the power user of email services as well as their aims for a more efficient future with emails.
1 - What is MailCloud?
Mailcloud is an exciting new email client app that will let users work faster and smarter by putting all messages and files in one place. The app is in development by an experienced team of 8 people in central London. The app will be available in a few months to download by users onto mobile but also to be used as a mobile and web app. Users will be able to test it before it goes live and can actually make their own Mailcloud and see app features now at MailCloudApp.com
Why is it different from competitors?
We have 21 feature ideas to differentiate from competitors. There has been a few new email apps released in the last couple of years. They’ve made email apps look better, but not really solved any of the core problems users face in sending and receiving emails. We want to change that. In all honesty, we’re going to let users decide what our key differentiating features are. This process has already started by users telling us which features they really value the most by choosing a key ’8 features’ out of 21 ideas we have at mailcloudapp.com
Have you had any investors interested or funding you yet?
We’re self funded and will bootstrap until we have a product that investors can get excited about. By that, I mean something that is being used on a daily basis and loved by our users, of which there are many, and growing!. I’M funding it myself after previous successful online ventures I founded such as Zaggora.com.
How do you monetise the service?
We have no idea. First, we have to really build a product users love. It’s free to use.
What is your background in the emailing service market?
We don’t have any.
We’re just a bunch of guys with experience in technical development, marketing, analytics and UI/UX design that all feel there is a lot of opportunity to build a product that we ourselves want to use to help us work faster and smarter when using email.
When you aim to launch the service to everyone?
I would hope in the Spring time 2014.
Where would you like to be in the next few months with MailCloud?
Have a product that works, where we learn as quickly as possible what users want, and give it to them.
When looking at MailCloud, the idea looks incredibly and I really hope that the service can deliver a fragmented email service that is personalised to individual users and a creative tool for the power using emailers. This company obviously cares about what customers need and what customers want, I think this will be their unique offer that will push them forward.
