Moment.Us Logo 300x300 Sink or Swim: Moment.usEver thought that the moment you are in deserved the right song. At the core of this idea is the app Moment.Us; designed around our emotions, environment and experiences it allows the user to discover and stream millions of different music thanks to their partner 7digital. This way the listener will be able to learn about artists while their songs are playing.

The app is not only able to catalogue over 25 million high quality tracks but it does it with an incredible 3D music player design with unique swipe-based actions. The best part it is all free to listen to if we simply download the app on our iPhone. Also, Moment.Us takes this concept a bit further and lets us share or create our own stories about the significance of the songs we are listening to thus, truly illustrating the idea of living in the moment.

The app aims to provide a service that is as simple as turning on the radio, but smart enough to deliver music personalised to the users preference and moment; which is perfect for today’s music lover market. The fact that it echoes the style of a radio helps this app to break through the boundary between generations.

Unlike generation X onwards, the boom baby generation finds it difficult to even wrap their minds around how much the world has developed since they were teenagers; so it’s not surprising that by creating an app that is simple and familiar to them will probably attract that section of the market to use the app. Similarly, the younger generation have been tasked with living in such a hectic period in time where technology is constantly advancing and everyone is on the go; it is comforting to have an app that allows to simply relax and unwind.

However, as any other product or service it needs to constantly find flaws or make itself better to stay in the competition. So after using the app a few times I agree that it is simple to use but when using it for the first time although the design of the app was nothing short of spectacular; the music doesn’t straight away give me a hook that makes me want to continue listening.

The aim is to allow the user to listen and learn various types of music by using what songs were being played by others and the moments they were in. Perhaps, if the app could scan the songs in the users device to get an idea of what songs to play or what to branch out to it would draw the user to utilise it more frequently from the very beginning.

3Dview 151x300 Sink or Swim: Moment.usThis is because with music to make a song popular one needs the right ‘hook’ that pulls the listener in and eventually buy the song. One thing to be wary about this illustration is that you want to do enough to make the user want to continue using the app but not to the point that it is overdone so not only losing focus of the main idea for the app but also making it too ‘in the users face’ like a Justin Bieber song.

Finally, the app has the skip option so that we are able to skip a song we don’t feel is right for the moment. Nonetheless, this is only limited to six times and though I understand the radio style being used in the app where we are unable to skip songs; it could evolve to create different ‘radio stations.’

All in all this app has a huge potential and I think will fair quite well in the music market; with its range of target markets, simplicity, innovative and eye-catching designs it could bring a whole new way we view music. Also, with so much room to evolve and create ways to continually keep the interest of teens and elders alike this app has a bright future ahead of it.
