After finishing high school you wonder if this is enough, if all the things we learnt are enough to live and to be the best you can be at the university. You usually think that what you studied and the way you did it was enough and immense.
However I believe Education needs to be improved. The physical experience that we face at school with subjects, teachers and books is unthinkable. We are in a world in which Education could be faster, more productive and better. Instead of adapting it to the new technologies, we still use the old system that our fathers imposed on us.
If we matched Education with technology, there would be more knowledge. We would be able to learn faster and study less than what we do today. We can not say the technology doesn’t exist, the only thing that we can underline is that there are people who still can not see this potential behind Education.
It is cool to have an iPad, full of apps and games; but wouldn’t it be cooler if we were able to distribute a tablet for every single student in the world? Do we need a tablet with 4g connection, extra space and extra battery? No.
With a 100$ tablet we would be able to distribute it in the Educational system, letting every student possess one. This would mean the end of textbooks printed on paper, with the result of saving millions and millions of trees all around the world. Students would be able to learn from Wikipedia, Quora, Coursera, AcademicEarth, Edx and other interesting resources that make the web a better place.
A school system that uses the same technology that Codeacademy has built is able to make Education and learning a more enjoyable experience and a faster one. With the power of a low cost tablet and the internet distributed all around schools thanks to hotspots, the students would have the entire knowledge of the world in their hands.
This world is possible. We have the technology to make it a reality. However there are still people who struggle to do the next step toward a better world. These people believe in the old school system, they reject tablets in school and they banish the internet from their schools. This is wrong and insane. The people who should lead this innovation are taking it down.
They could probably win in the next two or three years, but in the next five Technology will overwhelm them, making the world the place it deserves to be. We innovators, geeks, supporters, early adopters will never give up, because we believe in something; we believe that technology can change the way we see the world.
This change is not going to affect a single sector of our human experience such as school, but it will affect the way we live every day. From waking up to going to bed. In the last twenty years there have been introduced so many things that were the products of what we developed in the years. However this is just the beginning of what it will soon become an immense and complete revolution, which is going to overwhelm those who didn’t understand the power of technology.
