The Game of Today

Like everything else in the 21st century, gaming has evolved into something monumental since the first game console was released in 1972 that (with a lack of a cpu at the time) only allowed people to play games such as tennis or hockey by turning on and off certain components on the console. Now, we live in a world where gaming has become a bit like a culture to the point that there are even events specifically held for it such as E3 or Gamescon. But, today I will be focusing on a new gaming ‘console’ that has even left the Xbox Kinect in the dust; the PrioVR.

The PrioVR uses high-performance inertial sensors that provide 360 degrees of low-latency and real time motion tracking without the need for camera’s, optics or large equipment. The sensors are placed on key points of the body to be able to truly capture movement and transfer them on screen. In addition, the PrioVR is wireless, thus allows multiplayer’s and is adaptable indoors, outdoors or in capture spaces on any size.

PrioVR is available in three versions, the PrioVR Lite, Core and Pro. Unlike the other two the PrioVR Lite is only an upper body suit, perfect for traditional gaming done on the couch whilst still being able to punch, aim, duck and so on. This is also perfect for people who want to experience this virtual gaming world but may have slight lower body difficulties to enjoy moving around and playing the same way other players might that the Xbox Kinect isn’t able to provide.

The PrioCore and Pro really bring gaming to a whole different level by allowing the gamers to fully immerse themselves in the game by being able to use their legs to kick and move around though the Pro does this best with its 17 body sensors that adds more precision with the feet, shoulder and hips in comparison to the Core that only has 12 sensors. Therefore, by acquiring the Core or Pro suits, one now has an argument for not needing to go outside to exercise to their partner, friend or parent.

Based on countless years of experience in creating similar technologies for medical, industrial and military purposes the company, YEI Technology responsible for this game has few flaws in terms of quality and with much positive feedback and recent success on kickstarter marketability. However, the same debates are rehashed with the creation of this game. These include the ongoing argument about violent video gaming coupled with the fact that this game truly immerses the player into the game, thus experiencing virtual reality some believe that this product will blur the line between reality and the virtual worlds more than it does now. This being said, we then have to look at other games such as Ace attorney and Trauma centre and point out that if those games do not make us a lawyer or a doctor respectively then a game like this shouldn’t make us all criminal bosses in the future.

In conclusion, I really believe that this game is a step towards the future not only in gaming but the evolution of training people in their respective professions. I could aid children who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia to concentrate in class by creating a more entertaining environment in which to learn in and possibly even be a platform for a new age of communication using the age old idea of holograms in order to experience a one on one conversation with other people around the globe.
