(By the way the Ad is really good)
Yahoo Axis was released almost a week ago by Yahoo. This product is a web browser that let you see the internet in different way (as they say) and it is available on all platforms. You can download a desktop or a mobile version without any problem. The Ad is really interesting and the guy seems to be amazed by the product, but the question here is “Did Yahoo really need it ?”
What I wonder is if in a moment like this Yahoo really needs a browser.

Yes, a “browser”. Does it make sense? I really thought that the market was overcrowded. This product will be added to the vast choices that we have when we decide to surf the web; it could be one of the most innovative browser that we have or the most interesting, but I still believe that Yahoo didn’t need it.
Yahoo is facing a terrible period due to the market and the recent scandal about its CEO. Further they are in the process of reducing employees and cutting other parts of the company. In order to raise up from this horrible situation that is facing one of the most prominent internet companies in the early 2000′s, there is just one thing Innovation.
Yes, it is innovation. If you launch a great new product, you will get back that little but required amount of momentum that will help the company to come back to the early days. However it seems that they haven’t understood the lesson, because they are launching a product in a saturated market. In this case, when this product will fail, and probably it going to fail in a few years, they will completely waste the money they invested in this idea; making the whole Yahoo situation more complex.
This is not a critique against a project, which could lead to interesting and amazing scenarios; this is a critique about what Yahoo’s executives think. I agree with them that it is the right time to launch a product, but not something that has been available for us until the early days of the internet. At this point, if we don’t have one of the most incredible inventions of the last two decades, the browser market is closed for everyone.
Google Chrome and Firefox are too strong to be defeated. Likewise IE is too integrated on Windows, to be deleted (It is possible, but it is still somewhere on your computer). Safari is playing a key role on Apple’s devices, although it struggles to support flash on iOS. On the same wave lenght Opera has made a terrific job and has conquered a lot of users through the year; so the question is do we need another browser?
No, we don’t. There are too many terrific choices for us. Yahoo will face the same problem that Google is having on the Social Networks Market with Google Plus. If the majority of us is using a product, which is very very cool, we will never move to another new product that does the same things (although it is better). The key to success is not about how the new product is better than the the second, but it is a matter of innovation. The first product will win the long run if it is more innovative than the second, just if it changes the way we see the world from that perspective.
